Five quilted top-handle bags in graduated Lady Dior sizes arranged on a cream marble table

The Lady Dior comes in five main sizes: Micro, Mini, Small, Medium and Large. The Mini and Small are the most versatile because they come with straps for crossbody or shoulder wear, the Medium is the classic top-handle size that holds a full day's essentials, and the Large is a structured work bag. The Micro is a charming accessory for the barest minimum.

All five share the same architecture, a square, structured body with arched handles, cannage quilting and dangling D.I.O.R. charms, so the choice comes down to proportion and how you live. Below are the Lady Dior sizes with their commonly published dimensions, followed by the details that tell them apart in real life.

Lady Dior sizes at a glance

The bag first appeared in 1995 and took its name in honour of Diana, Princess of Wales, who carried it often. Its cannage topstitching echoes the cane-backed chairs Christian Dior used to seat guests at his first show. The table gives the Lady Dior bag sizes as most often published. They are approximate: the quilting is padded, leathers vary in thickness, and sizes vary slightly by season.

Micro Lady Dior

Dimensions: about 12 x 10 x 5 cm (4.7 x 3.9 x 2 in). Best for: evenings, a second bag, and collectors.

The Micro is a full Lady Dior in miniature, charms and all. It will not hold a phone, so think of it as jewellery: worn on its chain across the body for an evening, or clipped to a larger bag. Its appeal is pure delight in the details, and it photographs beautifully.

Soft colours suit it best. Our pre-owned Lady Dior Micro in powder pink lambskin with a chain strap shows the size at its most playful.

Mini Lady Dior

Dimensions: about 17 x 15 x 7 cm (6.7 x 5.9 x 2.8 in). Best for: evenings, crossbody wear and petite frames.

The Lady Dior Mini is the smallest size that works as a real bag. It holds a card holder, keys and a lipstick, and a compact phone fits, though a large one may not lie flat. Most come with a chain strap, so the Mini can go from the hand to across the body in a second. That flexibility is why the mini Lady Dior bag has become one of the most requested sizes on the pre-owned market.

The Mini is also where Dior plays most with finish. The pre-owned Lady Dior Mini in cherry red patent leather is glossy and bold, while the pre-owned Mini Lady Dior in pink cannage leather with gold-tone hardware is softer and more classic.

Small Lady Dior

Dimensions: about 20 x 17 x 8 cm (7.9 x 6.7 x 3.1 in). Best for: day-to-evening wear and crossbody carrying on most frames.

If we had to recommend one size to a first-time buyer, it would often be the Small. It holds a modern phone without a struggle, plus a card holder, keys and sunglasses in a soft pouch. It usually comes with a wide strap, which some versions let you personalise with badges, so it works across the body in the daytime and by hand in the evening.

The Small Lady Dior in black lambskin: the most versatile of the five sizes.

A dark neutral makes the Small endlessly useful. Our pre-owned Small Lady Dior in black cannage lambskin with gold-tone hardware is the version most people picture when they think of the bag.

Medium Lady Dior

Dimensions: about 24 x 20 x 11 cm (9.4 x 7.9 x 4.3 in). Best for: daily use and the classic top-handle look.

The Medium is the original proportion, and it is the size that looks most like the Lady Dior in the archive photographs. It is wider at the base than at the top, a subtle A-line that makes it sit neatly in the crook of the arm. Inside there is room for a compact wallet, phone, keys, a sunglasses case and a small pouch.

Current versions come with a removable shoulder strap, which makes the Medium more practical than its formal look suggests. Leather choice changes its character: our pre-owned Medium Lady Dior in matte black cannage calfskin is understated and modern, the cannage reading as texture rather than shine.

Large Lady Dior

Dimensions: about 32 x 25 x 11 cm (12.6 x 9.8 x 4.3 in). Best for: work days and taller frames.

The Large keeps the same depth as the Medium but adds width and height, so it holds a tablet, a long wallet and a cosmetics case while staying slim against the body. It is the least common size on the pre-owned market, which can make it good value. On a petite frame it reads as a work bag rather than an accessory, so try the proportion before you commit.

How to choose between Lady Dior bag sizes

Start with your phone

It sounds unglamorous, but the phone decides more Lady Dior purchases than anything else. Measure yours. If it is a large model, the Small is the smallest size that will take it comfortably, and the Mini depends on the exact phone.

Think about straps

The Mini and Small are the most adaptable because they are designed to be worn on a strap. The Medium and Large are top-handle bags first, and their shoulder straps are a practical extra rather than the main way to carry them.

Choose the leather for your life

Lambskin is the classic: soft, plump in the quilting and beautiful, but it scratches and marks at the corners. Grained calfskin is tougher and better for daily use. Patent is easy to wipe clean but can pick up colour from dark denim or other dyes, so store it in its own dust bag. Matte calfskin scuffs show and cannot be polished away, so it suits careful owners.

Buying a vintage Lady Dior bag

A vintage Lady Dior bag can be a lovely way into the design, often in colours and leathers no longer made. Before you buy, check a few things that matter more on this bag than on most.

Look at the charms first. The D.I.O.R. letters swing and knock against the leather, so check for scratched plating, bent rings and dents the charms may have pressed into the front panel. Then look at the cannage: the padding between the stitches should still look plump, and flattened areas tell you the bag has been squashed in storage. Check the handles for cracked edge paint and loss of shape, the four base corners for rubbing, and the lining for stains. Not every older piece came with a shoulder strap, so confirm what is included.

Dior bags carry an internal date code, usually on a small leather tab, which indicates where and when the bag was made. It is useful context, but codes can be copied, so it is never proof on its own. Our complete guide to buying a pre-owned designer bag walks through the wider checks, and our sourcing and authenticity page explains how we assess every piece.

On a vintage piece, the charms and the plumpness of the quilting tell you how it has been treated.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most popular Lady Dior size?

The Mini, Small and Medium are all in strong demand. The Small is the most versatile for everyday wear, while the Medium is the classic top-handle size.

Does a phone fit in the Lady Dior Mini?

A compact phone fits. Larger phones may not lie flat or may stop the bag from closing neatly, so measure yours against the Mini's interior, or choose the Small.

What is the difference between the Small and Medium Lady Dior?

The Small is about 20 cm wide and designed to be worn on a strap. The Medium is about 24 cm wide, deeper, and designed primarily as a top-handle bag, with a removable strap as an extra.

Is the Micro Lady Dior worth it?

As an accessory, yes, if you love the design and want it at its most playful. It will not hold a phone, so it is not a practical everyday bag.

Which Lady Dior size is best for work?

The Large holds a tablet and documents while staying slim. The Medium works for a lighter workday if you carry a compact wallet and phone.

Before you buy, compare the handles and charms across Lady Dior sizes, since both changed over the decades. Whichever of the Lady Dior sizes suits you, the design rewards years of wear. Browse our Dior collection to compare sizes, leathers and colours side by side.
